The robotics club recently participated in the annual Bayou Regional competition of FIRST Robotics. First Robotics is a national organization which promotes student learning in science, technology and engineering by hosting a nation wide game each year. Teams that participate must build a robot which overcomes various challenges during a game match. In January, the completion theme is revealed along with the match challenges. Teams are given six weeks to build a robot to compete in a regional competition venue of their choosing. This year, the BEAR Metal team placed 28th out of 60 teams. The BEAR Metal team continues to improve in design, programming and manufacturing while the competition continues to increase each year. Some of the teams at this year's Bayou Regional were from as far away as Turkey, China and Mexico.
