The Bears remained undefeated in meet competition in 2017 on their way to another district track and field championship. The district title is the seventeenth in a row for coach Pete Boudreaux's squad and featured twelve winners in eighteen events.
Kam Cummings was named Outstanding Field Performer with a triple jump win of 40-5 and a second place effort of 21-1 in the long jump. Cummings also won the 110 and 300 meter hurdle events. Outstanding Track Performer was Sethan Hollier with victories in the 100 and 200 meters. Hollier blistered the 200 in 21.85 and stopped the timer in 10.91 in the 100 meters.
Other district champs for the Bears were:
Zach Tom in the Shot Put (53-7 1/4); Jacob Thornton in the Javelin (176-1); Jared Sapia in the Pole Vault (12-6); Matthew Berdon in the Discus (146-9); Collin Hedges in the 1600 meters (4:33); Thomas Laville in the 3200 meters (10:05); and the 4x400 meter relay team of D.J. Butler, Mathew Howell, Tyrell Jackson and Lane Palmisano (3:24.72).
The Bears will be back in action next week as they attempt to win their twenty-fifth Regional track title since 1981. The Region II track meet will be held at Zachary High School on Thursday, April 27th. Pole vault action begins at 3:00 p.m. with other field events starting at 3:30 p.m. The 4x200 meter relay gets running underway at 6:00 p.m.
