The Links at Pelican Point provided the setting for the Division I, District III golf tournament. The Bears shot 297 as a team to defeat its nearest competitor, Zachary, by eleven strokes. Dutchtown, Denham Springs, East Ascenson, St. Amant, Baton Rouge High, Live Oak, Walker and Woodlawn were district schools that competed in the match.
Carson Caruso shot a one under par, 71, to win the individual title. Caruso chipped in from off the green on holes 14 and 15, and birdied 18 to catapult him to the title. D.J. Johnson had a solid back nine to finish with a one over par 73. Luke Miller shot 76, Nick Ashy carded a 77 and Jonathan Ellis finished with an 81.
Head coach Pat Dulaney was pleased with his team's performance."Our team came out focused and accomplished its goal of winning a district championship. Zachary is one of the better programs in the state and is always a tough opponent to beat. We improved from the Metro last week and captured a championship."
The Bears advance to the Division I, Region II event on Tuesday morning, April 25th, at Carter Plantation. CHS, Zachary, Dutchtown and Denham Springs will compete against District IV opponents St. Paul's, Jesuit, Holy Cross and Brother Martin.
