J. Michael Lamana ’64 to be Inducted into CHS Hall of Fame

Mr. J. Michael Lamana will be inducted into the Catholic High School Hall of Fame December 1, 2011 at the 27th Annual Founders Banquet at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center.

Mike is a 1964 Catholic High School graduate.  He earned his B.S. in pharmacy from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana and has worked as a pharmacist for over 40 years.

Mike is known for his generosity and service in many organizations.  At Catholic High, Mike has served on the CHS Mení´s Club executive board since 1989.  He also served the CHS Mení´s Club as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president as well as Mení´s Club Barbecue Chair. 

In addition to Catholic High, Mike has volunteered countless hours to St. Aloysius Catholic School, St. Josephí´s Academy and the Knights of Columbus.  He received the Mother Seton Award twice in recognition of his service and devotion to Catholic education by St. Josephí´s Academy and St. Aloysius Catholic School.  He spent decades volunteering as a coach for many organizations and schools including the CYO, BREC, St. Aloysius and St. Josephí´s Academy. 

Most recently, Mike established in the Baton Rouge area the annual íÍFreedom Walk Across Americaíñ to honor victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, including his son Michael Scott Lamana í´88, and to honor all veterans, past and present.

While a student at Catholic High, Mike was on the Track and Field team.  He held a Catholic High record for 15 years in shot put.  He also participated in Confraternity, Fighting 69th and the Beta Club. He was named a Bruin Man of the Year in 1964, one of Catholic Highí´s highest honors for students. 

Mike and his wife Wanda have three children: Andrea Chatelain, and husband Jude; Danielle Lamana and the late Michael Scott Lamana í´88.  They also have three grandchildren Brandon, Michael Scott and S. Joseph Chatelain.

The Catholic High School Hall of Fame honors those men and women whose commitment and dedication to Catholic High School have been exemplary, and whose lives can be an inspiration to the students of CHS.
