Swim Team Wins State Championship

The Catholic High swim team won the state championship edging out four-time defending champion Jesuit 344.5 to 323.  Fountainebleau took third.

Grant Grenfell and Colin Finnegan led the Bears.  Grenfell posted an All-American qualifying time to win the 100-yard backstroke (:50.50 seconds) and consideration for All-American in the 100-yard butterfly, where he tied Archbishop Rummel’s Eric Klein for first at 49.95.

Finnegan won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.44 and was second in the 200 individual medley. 
Top individuals included G. Grenfell, Finnegan, Chris Cazenave and Alec Vicknair taking first in the 200 medley; Brady Grenfell took third in the 200 freestyle; Finnegan placed second in the 200IM; G.Grenfell took first in the 100 butterfly and Cazenave placed third; Casey Panepinto was third in the 500 freestyle; G.Grenffel was first in the 100 backstroke; and Finnegan was first in the 100 breaststroke.

Catholic High won the state title in 2005.

344.5 points is the most CHS has ever scored at a Division 1 LHSAA State Meet. The Bears finish the season undefeated.

“It was an amazing effort. The boys represented CHS very well and competed hard. Couldn’t be more proud,” commented CHS Head Swim Coach Doug Logsdon.
