Baseball Bears Are Red Hot And On A Roll!
If you see smoke rising from the CHS baseball field, do not be alarmed. It is just the red hot Bear baseball team coming off another big win against East Ascension, 10-6. The Bears have reeled off nine straight wins and are now 18-6 overall and 2-0 in 5-5A play.
In game two against the Spartans, the Bears raced out to a 8-0 lead after four times at the plate. EA tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to narrow things slightly to 8-1. The Bears had a five run barrage in the top of the 4th highlighted by Brennan Lambert’s homerun smash over the center field wall at EA.
The Spartans would not roll over though and closed the gap to 8-6 after six innings of play. The Bears would answer with two more in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Jordan Werner kept things alive with a single to center. Patrick Crifasi then crushed a home run to increase the lead to 10-6. Brady Hebert closed things out in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the win.
Brock Perry got the win for the Bears, going five innings and scattering five hits. Perry is now 2-2 on the season and sports a 2.38 ERA. Hebert picked up his first save of 2017, with two sparkling innings of relief. The junior struck out four Spartans and threw twenty-four strikes on thirty-four pitches.
The Bears go back to work in a doubleheader versus Broadmoor on Saturday, April 1. First pitch for game one is set for 10 a.m., with game two starting thirty minutes after game one’s conclusion. The Bears should hit the twenty win mark when the final out is made on Saturday.
