Baseball Bears – The Comeback Kids

What a finish! It took ten innings, but the Baseball Bears were victorious, 5-4, over the Holy Cross Tigers in the Division I semifinals. Junior catcher Brennan Lambert drove in senior Cole Johnson for the deciding run to advance the Bears to the state championship game on Saturday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m.

Sophomore Brock Perry (4-2) picked up the win in relief of junior Brady Hebert. Both pitchers tossed five innings, struck out seven, threw seventy percent strikes and gave up just one earned run apiece. Johnson, Lambert and senior Payton Alexander all contributed two hits to the Bears’ offensive cause.

The 29-8 Bears will face the #1 seed John Curtis Patriots from the New Orleans area. The Patriots are 27-6 and dispatched #4 seed Archbishop Rummel in a 7-0 win Thursday afternoon in Sulphur. Curtis was the Catholic League district champion in the regular season.

First pitch on Saturday afternoon is set for 3:00 p.m. at McMurry Park in Sulphur. Bear fans are encouraged to arrive early to pack Field 41.
