Baseball Opens Season With 8-1 Victory Over Slidell
The CHS baseball team conquered opening day with a convincing 8-1 victory at 5A Slidell on Monday, Feb. 20. The Bears outhit the Tigers 11-4, played clean defense with no errors and picked up a dominating performance on the mound from three hurlers.
Austin Andrishok, making his first appearance since 2015, shut down the Tigers. The junior lefty tossed four innings, giving up three hits while striking out seven. Sophomore Brock Perry threw two innings in relief of Andrishok, giving up one hit and striking out four. Junior Brady Hebert closed it out for the Bears, striking out two in his one inning of work. Cole Johnson, Brennan Lambert and Will Ethridge led the Bears at the plate with two hits apiece.
Ahead 1-0 in the third, the Bears poured it on in the third with a single from senior Patrick Crifasi, a safety squeeze bunt from Hebert, and a double from junior Grant Segar to take a 4-0 lead. The visitors added three in the fourth to expand their lead to 7-0 and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
The 1-0 Bears take on Zachary on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m. at Grizzly Field.
