Baseball Team Prepare to Compete for State Title

The baseball team completed the season yesterday with a tough 4-1 loss to Central. The team finished with an 18-14 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the competitive 3-5A district. Their performance has secured a playoff birth, where they will play and their seed in the tournament has yet to be determined.

The crowd came out in great numbers to see the contest between the Bears and the Wildcats at the CHS baseball field. The Bear’s fans were excited early when sophomore A. Nola hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first. After this initial spark, the team had trouble generating offense. Seniors Brandon Vincent (2-3) and Michael Billings (1-3) provided the other hits against a strong performance by the Wildcat’s pitching and defense. Four times the Bears had runners on the bases and the Wildcats converted well on double plays. Michael Billings went all seven innings and pitched admirably. His overall record in district this year was 5-3 and his leadership was apparent all season long.

Now the new season starts for the team. All records can be thrown out the window and anyone in the state can take home the ultimate prize. The playoffs are scheduled to start on Tuesday of next week. Keep checking back to the website for more details of the upcoming games.
