Basketball Bears Continue To Roll

With victories over Plaquemine and Crescent City last week, the CHS basketball team continued their recent success running their record to 22-2 on the season. On Tuesday, the Bears traveled to Plaquemine to face a tough, physical Green Devils team. After a competitive first half, CHS extended a four-point halftime lead with a big third quarter run on their way to 68-52 win. The Bears were led by senior Kentrell Garnett’s 20 points. Junior Ian Cavana added 15 points.

On Friday, CHS welcomed perennial powerhouse Crescent City from New Orleans. The Bears’ defense was the star of the night holding the talented Pioneers to only 47 points. Crescent City shot just 29% from the field on the night. Four different Bears reached double figures in the 63-47 victory, including Garnett with 15, London Scott with 14, Caleb Warner with 13, and Dennis Hebert with 12.

Also, this weekend the CHS freshmen team competed in and won the Country Day Freshmen Classic. The young Bears defeated U High, ED White, Ben Franklin and Country Day on their way to the tournament championship. Dennis Hebert was named the tournament’s MVP.

This week, the Bears travel to Live Oak on Tuesday, Jan. 21, before returning home on Friday, Jan 24, to take on Country Day.
