BEARS WIN!! Bears take the win over Zachary with a last minute 2-point play!
If Bear fans came to see an exciting shootout between defending state champions, they got their money’s worth and then some. The Bears and Broncos went back and forth, exchanging leads several times during the game, before CHS scored with 15 seconds left in the game. Cameron Dartez engineered the go ahead score on a picture perfect two-minute drill. Dartez led the Bears on an 80-yard drive, capped by a 33-yard strike to Solomon Singleton to pull his team to one point, 30-29. Head coach Gabe Fertitta made the call to go for two and the Bears went with a little razzle dazzle, executing a reverse pass for the two point conversion. Greg Martin took the end around and tossed the winning pass to Forrest Roy to win 31-30. The Bears are now 2-0 on the season.
Josh Parker rushed for two scores with Dartez adding a rushing touchdown. Jonathan Mestayer helped the defensive cause with an interception, and Matthew Goodson booted a field goal and had numerous touchbacks to lead the kicking game.
