Bears Win In Dramatic Fashion On Last Play Of The Game

The Bears decided to gift Gabe Fertitta with a dramatic, heart-pounding, last second win in his first game as CHS head football coach. The Bears and Parkview Baptist combined to score thirty-two points in the fourth quarter, a quarter that saw multiple lead changes and the winning score of 27-25 coming with no time on the clock.

Cameron Dartez found Forrest Roy for a 12 yard completion in the back corner of the endzone as the final horn sounded. The play highlighted the perserverance of the Bears, who scored twice in the last three minutes plus to overcome the Eagles. The final, game-winning drive took just five plays to cover the 66 yards.

Junior receiver Forrest Roy was the Offensive Player of the Week. Roy had five catches for 79 yards and the game-winning reception.

Junior safety Jonathan Mestayer was the Defensive Player of the Week. Mestayer had 9 tackles and his interception led to the Bears’ first touchdown.

Senior punter Blake Davis averaged 49 yards per punt and earned the Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He had a long punt of 69 yards.

The 1-0 Bears travel to Zachary on Friday, Sept. 8, with kickoff set at 7:00 p.m. The Broncos defeated Northshore in their opener, 27-7. The Broncos are the #1 ranked team in the Baton Rouge area among 5A-4A schools.
