Big Orange Wave Takes Third At State
The Big Orange Wave cross country team ran on Wednesday in the 5A state cross country championship. The Wave trekked to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches for the three mile race.
Seniors Jeffrey Kelley and David Toups wrapped up their All-Metro careers with a 3rd and 9th place finish respectively. Kelley ran 16:21 and Toups clocked a time of 16:48 on the soggy course that was inundated the day before with torrential rains. There were 317 individual runners in the state meet.
Junior Thomas Laville ran 35th with a time of 17:34; Senior John Donner placed 39th in 17:40; Junior Caleb Dugas ran 17:52 good for 47th place; Senior Andre Aguillard crossed the wire in 49th place at 17:54; and Senior Michael Hubbell timed 18:09, finishing the race in 62nd place.
The Wave scored 133 points behind only Jesuit (106) and John Curtis (118). The Wave defeated 5A rivals St. Paul’s and Brother Martin, while finishing ahead of the teams from District 5-5A. There were 45 teams that entered the race.
