CHS And SJA Host 10th Annual College Planning Seminar

Catholic High School and St. JosephÕs Academy hosted its tenth annual College Planning Seminar on Sunday, Feb. 12 at CHS. The program was designed for CHS and SJA juniors and their parents to learn about the college admissions process. Representatives from LSU, Tulane University, ULL, Saint Louis University and Louisiana Tech were on hand to meet students, answer questions and offer advice.

The evening began with SJA senior Madison Hasenkampf sharing words of advice to juniors about her personal experience with college admissions. President of LSU F. King Alexander discussed the different opportunities at LSU and stressed the importance of not just going to college but finishing college. Alexander added that itÕs important to go to the school that is the best fit for you, whether thatÕs LSU or not.

The eveningÕs program featured two breakout sessions: University of Louisiana system colleges led by John Robert Linscomb, admission counselor from ULL, and Elton Taylor, director of Orientation and special programs from Louisiana Tech; and selective colleges and admissions essay writing led by Morgan England, senior associate director of undergraduate admission from Tulane University.

CHS College Counselors, Jennifer Thibodeaux and Sherry Brouillette, assist students with advice about choosing a college to meet their interests, as well as completing college and scholarship applications. Thibodeaux and Brouillette work with students to assess their aptitudes and interests and to explore career paths. A number of college-resource documents are available to students in the CHS Counseling Center.
