Catholic High School announces the promotion of Bella Rawls to Head Coach of the CHS Tennis Team for the 2021-2022 school year. Bella completed her 3rd year as CHS’ Assistant Tennis Coach to the late Coach Kyle Jackson ’07†.
Anabella “Bella” Rawls was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She began playing tennis at the age of six and reached her first National Championship Singles Final by the time she was eleven. During her high school career she maintained a top ten national ranking.
Bella was offered a scholarship at Louisiana Tech where she played Division I tennis from 2001-2005. While at Tech, she was named Second Team All-Western Athletic Conference in singles. She was also named team captain, two-time Most Valuable Player, and holds the runner-up record for most singles career wins.
After college, Bella worked as assistant tennis coach at St. Scholastica Academy in Covington from 2010-2012 under Head Coach Barbara Fisher. After moving to Baton Rouge, Bella taught Spanish at St. Thomas More Catholic School and coached at Southern Oaks Athletic Club in the Junior Tennis program.
While working with Coach Kyle Jackson ’07† for the last three years, the CHS tennis team won the LHSAA Regional Championship Tournament and the LHSAA State Championship in 2019 and 2021 (2020 cancelled due to COVID).
“Taking over as Head Coach this year is exciting, but I know I have some really big shoes to fill following Coach Kyle Jackson ’07 because he was an amazing person, coach and friend, ” said Coach Rawls. “We want to keep the legacy going. We want to win in his name.”
Bella is married to Benjamin Rawls and has 2 children, Emily and Charlie.
