CHS Athletic Teams Back In Action

For the past week, Catholic High athletic teams have been snowed or iced in, giving the Baton Rouge area a taste of what teams in the north experience during the winter. While CHS teams have not been able to practice or prepare, neither have their upcoming opponents. Below is a run down on where the Bears will be competing this weekend.

WRESTLING will compete this weekend in the Louisiana dual meet at the UNO Health & PE Building in New Orleans. The meet will host 21 teams from Louisiana that compete in Division I. The Bears will enter pool play today against Grace King and Covington at 6:3 0 p.m. Teams will be seeded on the bracket based on their pool play results and compete on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. St. Paul’s is the anticipated opponent for the Bears in the quarterfinals.

BASKETBALL rebounds from an eight day layoff tonight at Zachary. The 14-5 Bears will tip off at 7:15 p.m. following the 9th grade (5:00 p.m.) and JV (6:00 p.m.) games. Mark Cascio’s bunch is currently seeded 4th in the Division I power ratings with the 8-12 Broncos at #34 in the 5A power ratings. Cascio hopes that Bear Nation will catch the first half of the soccer match before walking over to the Zachary gym for some hoops action.

INDOOR TRACK will take to the warm confines of Carl Maddox Field House on the campus of LSU. Events begin at 11:00 a.m. This will be the second meet of the young indoor season. The third and final qualifying meet for the indoor championships will be on February 3, with the indoor championships taking place on February 20, at LSU.

SOCCER gets back to the pitch and will travel to Zachary with opening touch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Head coach Josh McReynolds wants to see Bear Nation come catch the Bears on the field before heading inside to see the basketball team tip off versus the Broncos. The Bears saw the field last Saturday against Jesuit in a 0-0 tie. The soccer Bears are 10-2-2 and sit at #2 in the Division I power ratings.

BOWLING will begin its season on Monday, January 22, at Circle Bowl versus Madison Prep at 3:15 p.m.

GOLF swings into action on February 6, at Greystone in Denham Springs with a 3:00 p.m. tee time.

LACROSSE will participate in the Sugar Bowl Classic next Saturday, January 27.

BASEBALL is two weekends away from its annual Orange and Black World Series.
