CHS Football Kicks Off 2018 Season Against Parkview

A little Thursday night football kicks things off for the 2018 season as the Bears host the Parkview Baptist Eagles at 7 p.m. at Olympia Stadium. Both teams open the season ranked in the top 10 in their respective class polls.

The Bears only return three starters from its heralded defense of 2017, but the newcomers have stepped up where the graduated starters left off. Expect a physical style of Cur Dog play from the defense championed by Elijah Reames, Jonathan Mestayer and Connor Finucane. The offense has eight starters returning, led by quarterback Cameron Dartez and an offensive line and receiving corps with three veterans apiece. Matthew Goodson and Cole Cazenave have the kicking  game locked down for the Bears.

The Eagles will bring their triple option offense and stack defense to Olympia on Thursday night. Sounds familiar? The Eagles have been employing the same offensive and defensive styles for two decades, and will attempt to play ball control on offense and bring pressure with their defense.

Last season, the Bears defeated the Eagles on the game’s final play, with Forrest Roy hauling in a pass from Dartez in the back corner of the end zone for the winning score. Parkview last defeated the Bears in 2015 at Olympia Stadium. The Catholic-Parkview match-up is always one of the top opening weekend featured games around the state, and 2018 is no different.

Bear Nation is encouraged to arrive early and pack the stands opposite the press box for Thursday’s night contest. The Bears are coming off of a 24-7 win over the Walker Wildcats in jamboree action last Friday night.

If you can’t make it to the game, you can still catch all the action on the BBN live stream and 104.5/104.9 FM ESPN radio. Beginning this year, CHS will also partner with WBRZ-TV to broadcast the Bruin Broadcast Network’s coverage on WBTR Channel 19 (HD 1019) in Baton Rouge and EATEL Channel 144 in Ascension. The television broadcast will begin 7 p.m.
