CHS Soccer Bears Celebrate State Championship Title

Yesterday the 2020-21 varsity soccer team gathered together to share one last team meal and receive their State Championship rings.  The Bears beat the defending champions, St. Paul’s, in February to earn their first LHSAA title in 28 years.  The team was  named the Advocate’s 2021 Star of Stars Team of the Year, marking the first time any Catholic High School team has earned this distinction.

Not only did this group excel on the field together as a team, the athletes received numerous awards and honors individually.

Several players received academic honors.  The LHSAA recognizes academic excellence of senior student-athletes who have attained a 3.5 GPA or higher by placing them on the All-Academic Team.  CHS players earning this honor as members of the 2021 All Academic Class Team with a GPA of 3.5 or above are Lane Poche, Alex Leonard, Connor Graves and Reid Wilson.  Poche also earned All-Academic Composite Team honors by earning a 4.0 GPA.  We are especially proud of these student-athletes and their dedication to school and soccer.

Other individual achievements include All-District honors – Blake Cook, Lane Poche and Rhett deBlieux earned First Team placement and Marcello Occupati, Connor Graves, Nathan Ogra and Max Cavana earned Second Team honors.  Lane Poche was named Defensive MVP.

All-State honors include First Team placement for Blake Cook, Alex Leonard, Lane Poche and Rhett deBlieux and Second Team placement for Max Cavana and Nathan Ogra.  JB Brunet was named Coach of the Year.

In addition, Alex Leonard was named to the 2021 LHSAA Boys’ All-Star Soccer Team.

The 2020-21 varsity soccer team has brought much positive recognition to our school this season, representing Catholic High well in academics and on the field.  We are very proud of our boys’ dedication and sacrifice for their team and school! Congratulations and GO BEARS!
