CHS Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Win in Second Round

The CHS Bears soccer team saw off No. 16 seed Alexandria Senior High 2-1 Tuesday night at Grizzly Field. First half goals from Buster Couhig and Blake Cook were enough to withstand a late charge by Alexandria.
This game was set to be a battle. The Bears defeated Alexandria 3-1 in the regular season, and the players knew the quality Alexandria would bring to the table. This one wasn’t going to be a cakewalk.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the Bears fashioning chances from their possession and Alexandria providing counter-attacking threats.
In the 21st minute, the breakthrough came when Alex Leonard played a beautiful ball behind the Alexandria backline for Couhig. Couhig sprinted on to the ball and slotted it away past the keeper.
Thirty seconds later on the ensuing Alexandria kickoff, Cook took the ball off an Alexandria midfielder, dribbled past two deeper defenders, and found the far-side of the net. The Bears took the 2-0 lead to halftime.
With 10 minutes left in the game, Alexandria got on the scoreboard from of a set-piece header. After the goal, Alexandria launched long-ball after long-ball at the CHS defense, but the Bears withstood the onslaught with brave defending.
Up next, the Bears will play Dutchtown at Dutchtown High School on Mardi Gras- Tuesday, February 16th at 2:oo pm.
