CHS Soccer Has Magical Playoff Run
The 12th seeded CHS soccer team’s magical playoff run ended on Saturday night at the hands of top-seeded St. Paul’s, by a score of 3-0. The match was played at Hunter Stadium, the Wolves home turf. St. Paul’s came in ranked #1 in the state soccer poll and also garnered a #25 national ranking from a reputable soccer publication.
The Bears played toe-to-toe with the Wolves throughout the first half behind solid defense and welcoming missed chances by St. Paul’s. The match was tied at half 0-0, and the Bears were poised for a huge upset and advance to the Division I finals. But the home team had other ideas, as they notched a goal in the first minute of play after the break and added a second one five minutes later. The Wolves put the game away with a solid net shot in the 67th minute.
The Bears enjoyed their post-season run after hitting adversity in the first half of the season with some unexpected losses. Once the Bears got on track, they captured the district title and put together a three game winning streak in the playoffs.
CHS opened its playoff run with a 3-0 home win against #21 Pineville, and then scored upsets at #5 St. Amant and #4 Jesuit at home. The Bears completed their season with a 15-8-2 record and a visit to the semifinals that will not be forgotten.
