CHS Track And Field Remains Undefeated After Weekend Win

The CHS track and field squad remained undefeated with their second outdoor victory of the season. The Bears captured the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Invitational on Saturday at the Pete Boudreaux Track. CHS scored 252 points, far outdistancing their nearest competitors in Brother Martin (79 points) and Denham Springs (71 points).  E.D. White (46 points) and Southern Lab (45 points) finished in 4th and 5th among the nine teams competing.

CHS captured all three of the throwing events with Jack Maddox (javelin); Tyler Hendricks (shot put); and Chris Shannon (discus) as the individual winners.

The Bears also had the three individual jump winners in Vernon Langley (long jump); Ebenezer Aggrey (high jump); and Caleb Bonine (triple jump).

In the relays, the Bears won the 4×200 and 4×400 events and placed second in the 4×100.

In the track events, the Bears had multiple winners. Collin Hedges (1600 meters); Vernon Langley (110 hurdles); D.J. Butler (400 meters); and Sayer Sauviac (300 hurdles). The Bears had four second place finishes and seven third place finishes in the BOSH Invitational.

Highlights of the meet were D.J. Butler’s eye-catching 400 meter win to stop the clock in 48.5 seconds.  Sophomores Caleb Bonine cleared 40 feet in the triple jump and Ebenezer Aggrey cleared 6’3 in the high jump.  Veteran Collin Hegdes checked in at 4:31 in the 1600 meter run.

The track and field Bears will compete again on Saturday, March 17, in the Catholic High Invitational. Events begin at 11 a.m. Go see the Wearing of the Green parade and catch some beads and throws down the street on Hundred Oaks before heading back to Catholic High for some exciting track and field competition.
