Craig Young Named Louisiana Young Hero
Catholic High School Senior Craig Young was recognized as a 2009 Louisiana Young Hero by the Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge at a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion on April 22, 2009.
Young was one of eight outstanding Louisiana students selected for this award. The Young Heroes Award honors outstanding students in grades 4-12 who have served their community, overcome adversity or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character.
Craig lost his mother after a long battle with brain cancer when he was 11 and is now part of the Boys Hope program which provides him with a safe home and environment and an education at Catholic High. He helps to care for his elderly grandmother and his blind 12-year-old brother while being part of the Student Ministry, Ambassadors, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes at CHS. He also donates his time to help coach special needs children in soccer and basketball and volunteered to help the Down Syndrome Group’s Christmas Party.
