Football Bears End Regular Season 7-3 With Victory Over Broadmoor
The Bears ended the regular season with a convincing 34-6 victory over the Broadmoor Bucs on Friday, Nov. 3, at Olympia Stadium. The Bears end their ten game stretch with a 7-3 record.
Offensive Player of the Week was senior fullback Hunter Monson. Monson, the 2016 starting center, scored two touchdowns on fullback dives for CHS. Monson, lost to injury early in the season, worked feverishly in his rehab and returned to the lineup in a new position to contribute on offense.
Junior safety Jonathan Mestayer is the recipient of the Defensive Player of the Week award. Mestayer picked off two Broadmoor passes and is a fearful hitter in the CHS secondary. Mestayer has been a stalwart at safety, on special teams and at quarterback for the Bears in 2017.
Senior kicker Preston Stafford booted field goals of 43 and 49 yards and crushed six touchbacks on kickoffs. Stafford has nine field goals on the season and has kicked more than 40 touchbacks on the season.
Catholic High will host Archbishop Shaw in the first round of the Division I playoffs on Friday, Nov. 10, at Olympia Stadium. Kickoff is for 7 p.m.
Archbishop Shaw is the 13th seed in the Division I bracket and competes in the famed New Orleans Catholic League. The Eagles, rich in football history, competed in the Superdome for a 4A state championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and won a 5A state title in 1987.
