JV Lacrosse Team Dominates Ocean Springs and Freshmen Continue To Roll

This weekend the JV lacrosse team dominated Oceans Springs by soundly beating the Greyhounds 11-2.  The Greyhounds came into Baton Rouge after soundly beating the Lafayette Lions and were stumped to find a nearly impenetrable Bears Defense.  Defensive midfielder Bennett Sherman posted 8 defensive plays, with 4 takeaways and 4 ground balls, to lead the Bearsí´ defensive effort.  Micah Theriot, Baylor Schexnayder, and Cody Abshire (playing up from the freshman squad at long stick middie) combined for 15 of the Bears 37 key defensive plays.  #33 Mattson Hood, 6 defensive plays, lead Bearí´s defensemen Nick Fasano, Conrad Adkins, and Patrick Colclough in a solid defensive team effort.  Sophomore goalie Joseph Angelloz shut out the Greyhound attackers for 3 quarters with 6 saves and only allowing 2 unsettled goals.  The Bearsí´ offense was led by  John Kellner and Baylor Shexnayder with 3 goals, was supported by Ryan McGinty and Bennett Sherman, each with 2 goals, and newcomer Brandon Sulik scoring his first career goal.  The Bears offense peppered the Greyhoundí´s goalie with 14 shots on goal on their way to an impressive 11 goals.

The Freshman team avenged their Sugar Bowl Tournament loss to St. Thomas Moore last weekend by defeating the Cougars this weekend 5-4.  The Bears once again produced an impressive defensive effort by outperforming the Cougars nearly 2 to 1 in ground balls.  Goalies Michael Ruiz and William Moore allowed only 4 goals on 13 shots with a combined save percentage of 69%.   The Bearí´s unselfish offensive play proved to be too much for the Cougars as 7 different Bears contributed to offensive production.   Attackmen Taylor Boyle, and Grant Langley combined for 3 offensive points on 2 goals and an assist.  Midfielders Garrett Harvey, Andrew Perrodin, Adrian Toranto, Randal Pizzolato, and Chandler Pastorek added a combined 6 offensive points on 3 goals and 3 assists to keep the game out of reach of the Cougars.  Head Coach of the Freshman Bears, Jeff Perrone said,  íÍmore than learning to play the game, these young men have learned to count on each other and have learned how to winíñ

The Varsity dropped a hard fought game to the Greyhounds this weekend by one point losing 8-9.  Senior captain Sean Averette scored 4 goals and 3 assists to lead all scorers.   Seniors Greg Normand, Michael Beal, and Tyler Hood added a combined 5 goals.  Senior captain George Troxell was dominating on defense with 6 ground balls and 2 takeaways.  Junior goalie Kyle Robichaux had 9 saves and a 50% save percentage.  Their efforts fell short as the Greyhounds scored the go-ahead goal with 1:27 left in the game.

The Bears now set their sights on the Crusaders of Brother Martin next Sunday at home
