Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season With Win!

The Bears lacrosse team took on Dutchtown on Friday night to close out their regular season before a large home crowd. The Bears solidified their playoff seeding with a convincing 11-3 victory over the Griffins.

The offense was steady throughout the night, but blew it open in the third quarter by scoring five goals. The Bears had seven players score on the night, led by Evan Fontenot who had five goals.  Joining Fontenot in the scoring column were offensive players Caleb Barber, Holden Farmer, Christopher Miller and Grant Wilkinson each with a single goal. Long Stickman Taylor Fontenot and defender Michael Browning also tacked on a goal apiece. Miller and Holden David each contributed with two assists on offense.

The power of this Bearí´s team has been the defense and that continued Friday night. Behind keeper Beau Abadie and defenders Matthew íÍMooseíñ Miller, Jack Thomas and Michael Browning, the squad held Dutchtown without a shot on goal in the first quarter. Add in Blaine Edmonson, out with a high ankle sprain most of the season, and the defense showed why the Bears are ranked sixth in the state. Abadie had eight saves on the night, while Browning, Edmonson and Miller each had two takeaways. Additionally, Edmonson had 5 ground balls on the night. With the win, the Bears finish the regular season 9-10 and 3-1 in district play.

The victory also secured a spot the Louisiana High School Lacrosse League playoffs for the Bears.  Stay tuned for more information regarding the playoffs in the near future.
