Matt Bruce ’01 | New Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for all Athletic Programs
Catholic High School has hired CHS alumnus and former Olympic weightlifter Matt Bruce ’01, as the school’s new Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for all athletic programs.
Matt was born in New Orleans, and moved to Baton Rouge, at the age of 13 to attend school at Catholic High School. During his eighth grade year, Matt began lifting weights under legendary Coach Gayle. Soon after, Matt fell in love with weightlifting, and throughout the course of his 17-year career, he became one of the most decorated Olympic weightlifting athletes in the country making seven World Teams and the alternate on both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic team. Since retiring from competition in 2012, Matt has transitioned into coaching and is the CEO and Head Olympic Weightlifting Coach for the online strength and conditioning team at Brute Strength. Matt graduated from Catholic High School in 2001 and from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Adapted Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Sports Management.
