Student Ministry Team

The Student Ministry Team is composed of juniors and seniors who serve as mentors to underclassmen. Once a month, student ministers meet with eighth and ninth graders in their religion classes to help them adjust to high school. In a program that begins with a three-day summer workshop and continues into the school year, team members receive training in small-group leadership, prayer experiences, liturgy planning, communication techniques, conflict resolution and other ministry skills. The student ministers meet monthly for faith sharing and planning.

Our Ministry

Mission Trips

Every year, faculty members and students from Catholic High School participate in various mission trips which include St. Anne’s Mission in Klagetoh, Arizona; Nicaragua; and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart United States Province Mission Experience.

St. Anne’s Mission in Klagetoh, Arizona, is a Navajo reservation run by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. On the reservation, the students’ primary job is to host Vacation Bible School for the Navajo children of the area.

While in Nicaragua, students work with Cantera, an organization that established several community centers and farms in and around the city of Managua, Nicaragua. The experience in Nicaragua includes a combination of traditional mission work and learning the history of the nation and its people.

Brothers’ schools in the United States Province have joined together for a united Mission Experience. Together, they perform service projects for a local community in the host school’s region. The first year was hosted by Brother Martin in New Orleans. Catholic High hosted the 2015 Mission Experience in Baton Rouge. The 2016 Mission Experience was hosted by Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, New Hampshire. Most recently in 2017, Vandebilt and E.D. White co-hosted the experience in Houma which featured nearly 140 students from all nine Brothers’ schools in the United States. Next summer’s experience will take place in Mississippi.
