2014 CHS Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Selected
Three Catholic High School alumni and one former coach will be inducted into the CHS Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame at a banquet to be held on August 8, 2014. Inductees are Coach Glen Randow, Maurice Coleman í´82, Kurt Dietrich í´91 and Kevin Franklin í´93.
Former CHS Head Basketball Coach Glen Randow had an overall 423-250 record during his 23 years as coach. During that time, he had two state runner-up titles, three state final fourí´s and four district championships. His undefeated regular season in 1992 earned him 5-5A Coach of the Year. In addition to his basketball successes, Coach Randow captured two State Titles as Head Golf Coach.
According to his former coaches Pete Boudreaux and Glen Randow, Maurice Coleman was the glue that kept the team together. He was a two year starter in basketball and received the Best Defense Player Award in 1982, the same year the Bears finished the season as State Runner-ups. Maurice was an all-district long jumper in track and an integral part of the 1981 outdoor track state championship team and the 1982 state runner-up team. He was a Man of the Year for the class of 1982 and helped establish the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization while a student at Catholic High.
Dietrich was a Special Teams Award recipient in football his senior year and a member of the 1990 district title team and State Runner-Up team. He was a starting center fielder in baseball his senior year and drove in the winning run to clinch the 1991 District Championship. His most notable accomplishment came in track. He was the Track Man of the year his senior year and concluded the season with three state championships.
Franklin was the recipient of the Parade All-American in 1993 and MVP in football his senior year. Upon graduation, he was the all-time leading rusher, all-time leader in points and all-time in total offense. He holds the school record for rushing attempts. Franklin was a four time state champion in track and graduated with the school record in the 200 meter and was Outstanding Track Man his junior and senior years. He served Catholic High as an assistant football coach for five years. While a student at CHS, he was a Man of the Year and Student Minister.
The CHS Grizzly Greats Hall of Fame honors any person who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the athletic program, selfless sacrifice of time and effort, leadership and whose actions portray characteristics which further the mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and whose life and accomplishments can be an inspiration to the athletes of Catholic High.
