2017 Indoor Track And Field State Champions!
The CHS indoor track and field team captured the Division I state title on Saturday, Feb. 18, at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. The Bears entered the meet’s final event, the 4×400 relay, with an eight point lead. The team of Cade Rounds, Tyrell Jackson, Lane Palmisano and Sethan Hollier left no doubt in the scoring by capturing the 4×400. The Bears scored 55 points to 39 for state runner-up John Curtis.
CHS won the Division I indoor title for the 10th time in the last 11 years and they avenged last year’s runner-up finish to John Curtis, this year’s runner-up.
Earlier in the meet, Kam Cummings captured his third 60 meter hurdles title in three years. Zach Tom, a Wake Forest football signee, finished second in the shot put. Sethan Hollier placed third in the 60 meter dash. The 4×200 meter relay team was the state runner-up and the 4×800 meter relay team finished third. The state title was the 45th for coach Pete Boudreaux in track and field and cross country combined. The national Hall of Famer was definitely proud of his guys. “We did not have a large number of individual titles, but it was a total team effort,” said Boudreaux. “The points add up when you place in the top six and we had enough depth to carry the day. The mile relay team made for an exciting finish to the day!”
