A Key District Win for the Basketball Team
Fresh off a district win over Walker High School, the basketball team took on Dutchtown last night in a game with tremendous playoff implications. The Bears and the Griffins both entered the game 4-3 in district, and the contest was for sole possession of third place. At the conclusion of the game, the Bears stood alone in third place and have the inside tract to the state playoffs.
The best crowed of the year saw the Bears triumph in a 50-41 point victory at the Catholic High gymnasium. Solid defense allowed the Bears to take a two-point lead into halftime. Lee Barbay led the defense in the first half with two steals that he converted into four points. The team missed their strong inside presence because Jr. Jason Peters was out with an illness. Tim Losavio, Brian DeJean, and Chase Ellis made up for the set back with strong offensive and defensive performances.
In the second half, the Bears controlled the tempo and converted on offense but could never put away the valiant Griffin team. With precision passing and disciplined ball movement, the Bears found holes in Dutchtown’s defense and converted on high percentage shots. Free throw shooting sealed the game for the team and the confidence of the squad continues to grow.
Leading scorers were:
Tim Losavio (Jr.) 13
Lee Barbay (Sr.) 11
Brian DeJean (Sr.) 9
Chase Ellis (Jr.) 8.
