Alumnus Scott Woodward ’81 Named Athletic Director at Texas A&M
Texas A&M University announced on Jan. 8, 2016, that CHS alumnus, Scott Woodward ’81, will be the new director of athletics for the university. Woodward, who is currently serving as the director of athletics at the University of Washington, will succeed Eric Hyman who has served as Texas A&M’s A.D. since 2012.
While at CHS, Woodward was a member of the tennis team. After graduation, he attended LSU where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. Woodward served as a political consultant and legislative liaison in Baton Rouge and eventually founded a government and public relations firm, providing strategic policy direction to Fortune 500 corporations.
Woodward eventually found himself back at LSU to work alongside Chancellor Mark Emmert where he served as the director of external affairs from 2000-2004. While at LSU, he also served as the chancellor’s representative to the athletic department.
Woodward was appointed the director of athletics at the University of Washington in January 2008. During his tenure, the athletic departments have flourished, capturing seven national championships and multiple conference titles.
