Baseball Bears Bounce Back To Finish Weekend Strong
After a loss in the Red Stick Tournament to Teurlings Catholic, the Bears bounced back on the diamond to take the last two games of the weekend to finish strong.
The Bears defeated St. Michael, 8-1, on Friday and defeated Scotlandville, 15-3, on Saturday. The Bears are now 13-6 on the season and should stay in the top three in the Division I power rankings. Heading into the week, the Bears sit at #2 in the power ratings behind John Curtis, a team the Bears defeated earlier in the season.
Coach Brad Bass will welcome more top programs to Grizzly Field as the Bears will face Division II power University Lab on Tuesday, March 20 at 5 p.m. and 5A power Zachary on Thursday, March 22 at 4 p.m. Rounding out the week will be a roadtrip down Interstate 12 to visit 5A power Live Oak, a 20-3 winner over St. Michael a few days ago.
Zachary is 13-1 entering this week of play, Live Oak is 11-4, while University had a record of 10-3. “We play tough competition for a reason”, said coach Bass.
“The non-district competition we face prepares us for the Ascension Parish programs in district and for the grueling Division I slate we will see in the post-season. Our young guys should be seasoned veterans after the innings played against non-district opponents,” added Bass.
