Baseball Bears Face Tough Road Trip
The 4-2 Bears travel west for a weekend slate in the Southwest Louisiana Tournament hosted by Barbe High School.
Beginning Thursday, March 3, CHS will play Notre Dame at McMurry Park North Field in Sulphur. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. On Friday, the Bears will play at Sam Houston, with the first pitch scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Closing out the tourney on Saturday, March 5, the Bears match up against Sulphur at the McMurry Park North Field with a 12:15 p.m. start, followed by a trip to Barbe High School at 4:45 p.m.
The Southwest Louisiana Tournament is one of the deepest collections of baseball competition that can be found in pre-district play. Notre Dame was the 11th seed in last year’s 3A playoffs. Sam Houston is 4-2 this season and defeated defending 4A champion Teurlings Catholic on opening weekend. Sulphur is nationally ranked in one prep baseball poll, while Barbe has won three of the last four state titles in Class 5A.
CHS coach Brad Bass welcomes the stiff competition. “We always schedule tough at Catholic in the pre-district games to expose our guys to great competition. We use these games as preparation for district play and our playoff run to the state championship. No one plays a tougher four game stretch on the road than we will this weekend. I am excited to see our guys compete at great facilities against great programs.”
