Baseball Bears Open Atchafalaya Challenge with a 12-1 Victory over Acadiana
The CHS baseball team opened the Atchafalaya Challenge with a convincing 12-1 victory over Acadiana on Thursday, March 17. Sophomore Brady Hebert tossed a five inning complete game, giving up three hits and striking out two Wrecking Ram batters. Hebert worked himself out of a couple of jams along the way to run his record to 2-0. Many Bears contributed to the offensive output at the plate to produce twelve runs against the 9-5 Rams.
The 9-4 Bears are back in action today and will travel to Lafayette High School with first pitch slated for 4 p.m., weather permitting. The Mighty Lions are 10-3 on the season and are currently ranked #1 in the most recent Class 5A power ratings. The Bears sit at #11. Senior Brady Sartain gets the start on the hill for CHS.
On Saturday, the Bears will travel to St. Thomas More in Lafayette for a 10 a.m. start. STM will be a formidable opponent as the Cougars have won the last two Class 4A state baseball titles. Junior Parker Evans is expected to start on the mound for the Bears.
In the final game of the Atchafalaya Challenge, the Bears will meet 7-4 Carencro at 2 p.m. Either Grant Segar or Landon Boenecke, both sophomores, will get the nod on the mound versus Carencro. The game will be played at Carencro.
