Baseball Bears Open District Play With A Shutout Over St. Amant
The Baseball Bears opened District 5-5A play with a resounding 11-0 road win over St. Amant. Brock Perry threw a four hit shutout against the Gators, yielding just four hits and one walk to the home team. Perry faced just seven hitters over the minimum and threw 53 strikes on 78 pitches. The junior struck out three Gators and bumped his record to 3-1 on the season.
The Bears got going in the top of the second inning, plating three runs to get out ahead early on the Gators. The bats were quiet in the middle innings and Perry and solid defensive play kept St. Amant at bay before the Bears erupted for eight runs in the top of the last to ice the Gators in the district opener.
Brady Hebert led the offensive attack with three hits. Zach Ordeneaux, Bryan Bergeron and Trey Gagliano each had two hits. Ordeneaux posted four RBI to help pace the 14 hit onslaught.
The Bears are now 15-8 and 1-0 on the season and face the Gators again on Thursday at Grizzly Field in an early 3 p.m. start. Brad Bass’ bunch will be off during Holy Week and gets back to the diamond on Tuesday versus McKinley (at home) and Thursday (on the road) with 4 p.m. first pitch offerings.
