Baseball Bears Take Charge Of District With Big Win
The Bears entered Thursday’s game with Dutchtown tied with the Griffins for the district lead at 5-1. A base-clearing double by senior first baseman Brandon Fairbanks, propelled the Bears to a
7-4 victory and a lead in the 5-5A standings.
Senior lefty Brady Sartain is now 4-1 on the year. Sartain threw ninety-three pitches in five innings, striking out seven and scattering five hits. He was relieved by sophomore Landon Boeneke and the youngster allowed just one unearned run in two innings of work while picking up the save.
Brandon Fairbanks was 2 for 3 on the evening with 4 RBI, and nine hole hitter Patrick Crifasi continued to push his average over the .400 plateau going 2 for 2 on the evening.
The Bears are now 23-5 overall and 6-1 in district play, with the Griffins at 18-10, 5-2. St. Amant is a half game out of second with a 4-2 district record. McKinley sits in last at 1-5. Broadmoor, who was defeated by Catholic early in 5-5A play, has decided to discontinue its season and all games scheduled against the Buccaneers will be declared a “no contest”.
The Bears will play at Dutchtown in the second game of the series on Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
