Baseball Bears Win In Dramatic Fashion
The Baseball Bears used a flair for the dramatics in their fourth, one run win of the season on Thursday night against Dutchtown. Trey Gagliano banged out his fourth hit of the game to drive in courtesy runner Jonathan Mestayer from second on a “bang-bang” play for the walk-off win. The “safe” signal by the home plate umpire brought the entire Bears’ dugout, including head coach Brad Bass, to the plate for a raucous celebration. The 5-4 victory pushed the Bears’ record to 21-8 on the season and 7-0 in 5-5A play.
Bryan Bergeron was another offensive hero for the Bears with a 3 for 4 effort at the plate. Brock Perry picked up the victory on the mound for CHS with a complete game effort, yielding six hits while striking out four Griffin hitters. Perry threw 60 strikes on 94 pitches and is 5-1 on the season.
The Bears will travel to Dutchtown for the final game Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. The game has major district implications and a win would almost guarantee another 5-5A championship for Catholic.
