Baseball Bears Win State Title

The CHS Varsity Baseball Team defeated Zachary 3-2 at Tulaneí´s Turchin Stadium to take home the state title on Sunday, May 12. With the win, CHS pulled off the biggest 5A championship upset since the new seeding system began in 2008.

The Bears were led by excellent fielding, strong hitting and persistent pitching. Clay Moffitt pitched a complete game earning MVP honors for the weekend. After allowing Zachary to score two runs in the first, the Bears stepped up defensively and did not let the Broncos score again.

The runs came in for the Bears when Connor Whalen hit a homerun in the fourth, the only homerun of the entire state tournament.  CHS put up another run in the fifth, tying the game at 2-2. The Bears took the lead in the seventh with another run, and ended the game with a fast-action double play to take home the championship trophy.

The game ball was given to the CHS student section for their constant support throughout the entire tournament.
