Baseball Bears With Impressive Win
The old baseball adage goes something like this: “Pitching and defense wins games”. After the Bears took to the diamond on Monday night, no statement rings more true. Starter Brian Fairbanks surrendered just one hit and struck out seven in six innings of work and Nathan Bell pitched a clean seventh inning to lead the Bears to a 9-0 win over area rival Central. The CHS defense was brilliant, fielding a perfect 28 for 28 on defensive chances, while the Central defense committed three errors.
The Bear offense was led by the 2 for 4 plate efforts of Brandon Fairbanks and Tristan Welch. Welch slugged two doubles to go with one RBI. Brandon and Brian Fairbanks both knocked in two runs. Outfielders Patrick Crifasi and Daniel Guilbeau each recorded a double at the plate. CHS was 9 for 27 at the plate as a team and drew seven walks.
With the win, the Bears move to 13-4 on the season and have the longest current win streak in Class 5A at eight games. The loss dropped Central to 10-5 on the year.
The Bears make a quick turnaround and will face Dunham on Tuesday, March 22, at 6pm. The Tigers of Class 2A will bring a 4-12 record to Grizzly Field.
