Baseball Team Continues with 10 Game Winning Streak
The Varsity Baseball team took a nine game winning streak into Wednesday afternoon’s game with state power Zachary at Grizzly Field. Make it ten in a row, the longest current streak of any team in the state in any classification, as they held off the visiting Broncos, 4-3.
Brady Hebert elevated his record to 3-0 with a complete game performance. The sophomore threw seven innings and scattered four hits in his 98 pitch effort. Hebert struck out two and threw 24 first pitch strikes to Bronco hitters. The CHS defense committed just one error defensively which played a major part in limiting Zachary to just three runs.
The Broncos scored two in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. But the Bears answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Patrick Crifasi led off with a single, Cole Johnson followed with a walk and Brandon Fairbanks singled to load the bases for Josh Smith. Smith singled to drive in two runs to knot the game at 2-2. With the bases loaded later in the inning, the Bears took a 4-2 lead, scoring two runs on a passed ball with two outs. Smith scored from third and Tristan Welch scored from second.
The Bears are now 15-4 on the season after starting the season 5-4. The Bears have not lost since March 5 and kick started their 10 game win streak with a victory over national power and defending state champion Barbe.
The Bears will face Walker on the road on Saturday, March 26, with a 1 p.m. start.
