Baseball Team Defeated Walker
The baseball team defeated Walker yesterday 7-1 by displaying strong offensive and defensive prowess. The win brakes a four way tie for first place in district 3-5A. Now, the Bears and Dutchtown share the lead with records of 5-2. A battle of the two first place teams will take place at 4:00 at Catholic High School on Thursday of this week.
Michael Billings (Sr.) lead the way for the Bears by pitching a complete game and only giving up one run. His efforts were supported by some outstanding defense in the field. S. Harrell (Soph.) made two outstanding diving catches in the outfield, and C. Deno (Sr.), who was recently moved to catcher from the outfield, picked off two runners whose leads were too large at first base. In the third inning when the Bears were leading 3-1, senior second baseman S. Dauterive made a remarkable play on a ground ball up the middle. Moving to his right, Dauterive fielded the ball on the shortstop side of second base and tossed it to short stop A. Nola (Soph.). The force out at second prevented a run from scoring and the following batter flied out.
The Bears were also impressive at bat. M Billings again led the way with a three run home run in the third inning and R. Lewis (Soph.) had a solo shot in the 6th. B. Landry (Sr.) had a timely hit in the 5th inning which drove in a run, and the Bears scored two more runs on errors by the Wildcats.
The district showdown with Dutchtown on Thursday will allow the winner to control their future. The game will be the featured contest in Baton Rouge and will provide some awesome entertainment. Come check it out at 4:00 at Catholic High.
