Baseball Team Defeats Central Wildcats 4-1
The diamond Bears collected just five hits against Central, but it was good enough to defeat the Wildcats on the road, 4-1. The Bears took advantage of eight walks by the Central pitching staff along with three errors by the opposing defense on Wednesday night.
Bryan Bergeron was the offensive leader for the Bears, going 2-3 at the plate with a walk, a stolen base, and a rbi. Austin Andrishok got the win on the mound for CHS, going four innings and giving up three hits while striking out three. Andrishok induced six fly ball outs from Wildcat hitters. Nathan Bell earned the save with a solid three innings of relief. Bell struck out six and gave up two hits while throwing eight first pitch strikes against the thirteen hitters he faced.
The 7-4 Bears are in action on Thursday, March 9, versus Acadiana at St. Thomas More in Lafayette. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. against a very good 5A program in the Wrecking Rams.
“It is a great time to be a baseball Bear as we get to play five games in four days,” said head baseball coach Brad Bass. “We led off the week with a win against a Division I pitcher for Central and then we will face four well-respected programs from the greater Lafayette area. I am looking forward to seeing our guys compete and see the development of our team against well-coached programs.”
The rest of the weekend schedule for CHS looks like this:
Friday versus New Iberia at Fabacher Field (Lafayette) for 7 p.m.
Saturday versus Notre Dame at Teurlings Catholic for 10 a.m.
Saturday versus versus STM at STM for 4 p.m.
