Baseball Team Ends Season Play with District Title
The Bear baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 26-5 record after their 12-2 five inning contest at McKinley. The Bears captured its third district title in a row and currently sits fourth in the 5A power ratings.
The Bears fell behind the Panthers 2-1 in the first on two unearned runs. The Bears regained the lead and led 4-2 after four innings of play before an eight run explosion in the fifth ended the game by the ten run rule.
Offensive leaders for the Bears were Tristan Welch with a solo home run; Patrick Crifasi with 3 rbi; and Josh Smith with a triple and 4 rbi.
Junior Sam Prescott tossed four innings to record the win and run his record to 2-0. Prescott struck out four and yielded one hit and one walk in his time on the mound. The righty threw 54 pitches, 34 going for strikes. Sophomore co-closer Landon Boeneke threw the last inning, striking out two and giving up a hit. Boeneke threw 14 pitches with 11 going for strikes. The two hurlers did not surrender an earned run.
The next step for a trip to Sulphur and the 5A baseball tourney will come in a first round playoff game at Grizzly Field. The LHSAA will release baseball playoff brackets at noon on Sunday, April 24.
