Baseball Team Ends Season with Title

The CHS Baseball team ended an impressive season on Saturday, May 10, with a District Title, after making it to the semi-finals of the State Tournament. The CHS Bears defeated Pineville, Slidell and Dutchtown in the State Tournament before falling in the semi-finals to Jesuit. This was the Bears first time making it to the State Tournament since 2002.

The Bears ended their season with a 33-7 record; 14-1 in district. The team accumulated 55 homeruns in the season with Austin Nola leading the Bears with 13. Pitcher D.J. Ponder finished the season with a 14 ‘ 0 record.

In addition, five members of the 2008 CHS Baseball team were named to the District 5-5A All-District Team. Those named were Greg Judice, first baseman; Austin Nola, short stop; D.J. Ponder, pitcher; Ryan Lewis, outfielder; and Alex Facundus,utility.

Austin Nola was also named District 5-5A Most Valuable Player and Louisville Slugger High School All-American Infielder.

‘This was a special group of players who represented Catholic High well. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to coach such a good group of kids in my first year at Catholic High,’ commented Head Baseball Coach Kyle Achord.

Catholic High Bear continuing their baseball careers at the collegiate level are Ryan Lewis, Rice University; Austin Nola, LSU; D.J. Ponder, Tulane University; and Spencer Harrell, Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
