Baseball Team Starts Season with a No Hitter

The Varsity Bears are off to an exciting start to the 2015 season!  The Varsity Bears have had two wins this week and now are preparing for tournament play this weekend.

The Bears started the week off with a 3-0 win over Slidell where Ross Massey pitched a no hitter.

“It felt good especially in the season opener.  I didn’t expect to do that.  Coach Bass didn’t pull me so I just went for it,” commented Massey, a Tulane baseball signee.

“Massey is very deserving.  I’m very proud of him.  He’s a great player and has a great work ethic,” commented Coach Bass.

Massey commented that in his first period Physics class, Mr. Sollie, in true Sollie fashion, would give him a hard time and referred to him as “Smashy.”  Sollie told him he would attend all home games this season and sit in the outfield “to catch all of the balls from homeruns hit off of him by the other team.”  It was extra special for Ross to be able to pitch a no hitter in Mr. Sollie’s memory.

Thursday night, the Bears continued their exciting start to the season with a 9-1 win over Walker.  Brandon Fairbanks and Simon Prevot lead the offense with 3 hits.  Kyle Candilora got the win and  and Bradley Thornton got a save.
