Basketball Bears Are On A Roll
The basketball Bears have been on a tear lately. First, they defeated McKinley and the district’s top player at the CHS gym. Then they blew through East Ascension and Dutchtown. The victory over McKinley was a close one, but the wins over EA (64-47) and Dutchtown (63-40) were games where the Bears were in control from the beginning. The EA victory was on the road against the then 4th rated team in the Class 5A power ratings.
On Friday, Feb. 9, the Bears travel to Broadmoor to face an athletic and a very capable Buccaneer team. While the Bucs are 0-4 in district, they did knock off Southern Lab, Zachary, Belaire and Glen Oaks in non-district action. “Keeping our guys focused and continuing to play our attacking style of ball in all phases is our goal,” said head coach Mark Cascio. “We cannot be fooled by their district record because they are capable of beating us in their home gym. We need to continue our run of playing out best ball down the stretch as we head into the district tournament next week.” Broadmoor is 16-14 overall and sits at #32 in the 5A power ratings. A win over CHS would almost assure them a playoff berth. The Bears are 16-7 and are currently #4 in the Division I power ratings. The varsity game is set to tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
