Basketball Bears Have Success Over The Break!
Over the break, the CHS basketball team was very busy participating in two tournaments and playing eight total games. The Bears went 7-1 in those games to run their overall record to 18-2 on the season.
As exams ended, CHS hosted Denham Springs and traveled to Istrouma on back-to-back days. Pressure defense and balanced scoring allowed CHS to run past the Yellow Jackets 78-43. Against Istrouma, the Bears got out to an early lead as senior Kentrell Garnett hit four first quarter three-pointers on his way to a 32-point performance, and the team earned an 82-48 road victory.
After a break for Christmas, the Bears hosted the annual Red Stick Classic tournament. Over the course of three days, CHS went 3-0 defeating De La Salle, Runnels, and Livonia.
As the calendar flipped to 2020, CHS traveled to New Orleans to play in the prestigious Sugar Bowl Prep Classic. The Bears were invited to play in the national bracket against some of the best schools in the country. On Thursday night, CHS took on Gray Collegiate Academy (Columbia, SC), a nationally ranked opponent. The Bears used unrelenting effort to outlast Gray in an 89-82 double overtime victory. Garnett exploded for 38 points in the exciting win. The following night, the Bears took on another nationally recognized opponent in Male High School (Louisville, KY). CHS was not able to repeat their perfomrnace and fell to Male 59-44. On the final day of the tournament, the Bears were able to rebound with a 59-52 win over Ponchatoula.
The team is back in action this week traveling to Lee on Tuesday and hosting Walker on Friday.
