Basketball Bears Move To 3-0 With Win Over Fontainebleau
The Catholic basketball team pushed its record to 3-0 with a 47-20 win over 5A Fontainebleau in the Thanksgiving Shootout at the Bear Cave on Monday night.
Collin Holloway led the Bears with 17 points. Mason McCullough chipped in eight points and Caleb Warner tallyied six points.
The Bears led the Bulldogs 17-12 at halftime and adjusted to the slow tempo of the visitors. “Fontainebleau’s plan was to slow the game down and pass the ball until two of their shooters were open,” said Bear head coach Mark Cascio. “We scored to open the game 2-0 and did not get the ball back until four minutes left. The guys adjusted, settled in, and got more comfortable in the second half. I am proud of how they handled a different gameplan from an opponent.”
The Bears hit six three-pointers in the game, improving on Monday night’s three conversions. On Tuesday, November 21, the Bears will be tested by 2016-2017 Division II runners-up St. Thomas More of Lafayette. The Cougars lost 68-49 on Monday night to Division I defending champion Scotlandville. “Don’t be fooled by the score,” said Cascio. “STM was down by single digits to Scotlandville late in the third quarter.”
Tip off for tonight’s action is for 7:00. The Bears will wrap up tournament play at CHS on Wednesday at 7:30 against Zachary.
