Basketball Bears Open Season 2-0
The CHS basketball team opened its season this week with two victories over Hammond and Chalmette.
On Monday, CHS hosted Hammond in the season opener. The Bears used their fast-paced offense to score 54 first-half points and build a big halftime lead. In the second half, a sustained effort allowed the team to earn an 81-53 win on opening night. Senior Kentrell “Deuce” Garnett led the way pouring in 31 points.
On Wednesday, the Bears traveled to Chalmette to face a tough and physical Owls team. Despite being down double digits in the second half, the Bears were able to use pressure defense to create opportunities for a comeback. Clutch plays down the stretch led to a 63-52 CHS win. Garnett led the team with 20 points, and junior Ian Cavana contributed 13 of his own.
“Our effort this week was exceptional. We’ve definitely set a high standard for ourselves for the rest of the season, “ said head coach Mark Cascio.
