Basketball Team To Compete in Second Round Competition against East Ascension
The CHS roundballers returns to the floor tonight on the road at East Ascension. Varsity tipoff versus the Spartans is at 7:15 p.m.
The Bears come into the second round of 5-5A competition hoping to turn around their fortunes. CHS had a rough go the first time through the district schedule going 1-4, but were competitive in every contest. The Bears never lost a district match by more than seven points and are now playing at full strength for the first time in 5-5A play.
East Ascension is 23-5 overall and 4-1 in 5-5A with their only loss coming to district leader McKinley. The Spartans defeated the Bears 52-46 in the district opener almost three weeks ago.
“We need to show up both mentally and physically in a hostile environment to be victorious. It all starts with the bus getting out of the parking lot in the cold weather,” said CHS Basketball Head Coach March Cascio. “All joking aside, EA is obviously a good ball club, their 23-5 record indicates that. We must handle their pressure and control the tempo of the game. We need to take great shots but finish easy basket opportunities, which we did not do against McKinley. Drawing fouls and then shooting well from the free throw line could be the difference. A good sign of things to come will be the bus starting tonight”.
